SOPA/PIPA
I’m off to a yoga class in a bit. I’m using the SOPA protest today as the cattle prod I need to get my slumpy ass back into it.
I really don’t think SOPA/PIPA can pass. There’s even a large amount of Republicans who are saying they’ll vote against it. One thing I will say for Republicans - they are ruled by our wallets. There might be big money going into their coffers from SOPA supporters, but they’re seeing that even more money is at stake if they vote for it - money that circulates through our economy.
Money talks, and our congress critters are beginning to realize that this Internet thing fuels a large part of our modern economy. If they do anything to crush its growth, our current economic problems will look like a college student’s credit card debt by comparison.
Also, the sweet sweet grumblings from SOPA supporters regarding the critics are music to me. My humble thanks go to all the huge Internet companies (Google, Wikipedia, etc.) who have gotten the attention of our lawmakers.
