I loved the movie itself. It was a hell of a lot of fun, and well, written, and let’s face it, I’m a trekkie and always have been.

I will likely wind up owning it, as I do the first one.

That said, I can’t ignore than Cumberbatch was miscast. Sure, he’s good at glowering menace…

I’m with you. Apparently they tried to get Benicio Del Toro for the role, but money couldn’t be agreed upon. Cumberbatch was amazing, and I drooled at him the whole time, but yeah. Conflicted. As for Uhura’s scene - she WAS a badass. She unflinchingly faced a hostile species that looked like he was about to eat her (anyone else think the re-imagining of the Klingons was gorgeous and frightening?) However, the point is that despite her badassery, ultimately she’s up against a large amount of pissed off warriors. A human male couldn’t match those odds either. In the end, also, it was about highlighting Khan’s unusual strength and his confusing motivations. That scene is used as a warning about his abilities later. Now, as far as sexism in this movie goes, no hate on the scene where Kirk beds two alien women with tails? Especially since the whole “Kirk beds at least one alien female per movie” seems to be a recurring theme. It’s a nod to the original series where the character was indiscriminate and is a part of the ancient theme of Kirk being a macho man.
